Prevent Child Abuse Rowan is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse in Rowan County through volunteerism, education, and advocacy.
History
Prevent Child Abuse Rowan began as a grass-roots organization following the first Child Abuse Prevention Walk, held in 1997. A concerned and dedicated social worker organized the Walk and as a result of her efforts, and in collaboration with other concerned citizens, Prevent Child Abuse Rowan incorporated in 2000.
Rowan Regional Medical Center agreed to partner with PCAR in 2004 by leasing property at 130 Woodson Street in Salisbury to house Rowan County’s first child advocacy center. The center, known as Terrie Hess House, memorializes one of Rowan County’s tireless child advocates and the first President of PCAR.
