Child Advocacy Center Steering Committee
From its inception in 1997, Prevent Child Abuse Rowan has been working to create a fully functioning child advocacy center in Rowan County.  Child advocacy centers (CACs) exist to address the needs of child sexual assault victims and their non-offending family members. CACs offer a multi-disciplinary team approach to investigations that minimize additional trauma for the child victims, by reducing duplication of service, maximizing existing resources, and promoting increased communication exchange among investigating agencies.  Rowan Regional Medical Center agreed to partner with PCAR in 2004 by leasing property at 130 Woodson Street in Salisbury as Rowan County’s first child advocacy center.  The center, known as Terrie Hess House, memorializes one of Rowan County’s tireless child advocates and the first President of PCAR.
